But don’t be afraid to be a tourist if you’re in a big city and want to see the big sites. If you’re in New York and want to visit the Statue of Liberty and take a boat ride around the island, oh my God, go for it. It can be a good memory of your visit to the city, after all, you work hard for your business goals while in the city, so you deserve to relax.

One of the best ways to get some free time to enjoy local events and attractions is if you’re there on a Friday but have to work on Monday. Most companies prefer to pay for two nights at a hotel and eat rather than go home and come back. So you can save your rental car and get a few days to become a civilian for a while and explore local places which are very busy.

To find unique events in the city that few people know about, read the local paper and look for small newspapers about local culture or arts such as the Village Voice in New York.
